Little Flyers Index: World’s Most Family-Friendly Airports

Travelling as a family can be exciting, but it also comes with its challenges, especially
when flying with little ones. From navigating busy terminals with extra baggage and keeping children entertained, to managing delays, disrupted nap times and changes to
routine, there’s a lot for parents to juggle.

While taking a flight with children can feel overwhelming, travelling from an airport that
offers dedicated family facilities and services can make all the difference to your family’s journey, taking it from a stressful experience to a more seamless, enjoyable one. Having
the right travel accessories and equipment, such as our IATA cabin-approved compact travel stroller, Pip, can also make navigating airports a little bit easier.

Whether you're planning your first family holiday or you're seasoned travellers,
finding an airport that supports your needs isn’t always easy. That’s why we’ve created the Little Flyers Index, uncovering some of the world’s most family-friendly airports by analysing over 100 international hubs and scoring them on the services and amenities parents really care about.

These include:

  • The number of restaurants available
  • The number of children's play areas in the airport
  • The number of breastfeeding or nursing rooms
  • If the airport has prams available to rent
  • If the airport has family-friendly security lines or services
  • The number of annual passengers who fly from the airport

For those jetting off on a family trip in the future, making sure you’re as prepared as
possible for a travel day can really help reduce stress and make things run
smoothly. From getting a reliable travel pram such as the iCandy Pip, which can even come with you on the plane, to taking your kid's favourite snacks and games - all the small things count when you’re on the move with young children.

Methodology

To create the Airport Family-Friendly Index, we analysed 117 global airports based on the availability of key amenities for families, including restaurants, play areas, feeding/pumping rooms, rentable prams, and family assistance at security. To ensure a fair comparison across airports of different sizes, we normalised the data by calculating the number of amenities per million passengers. This allowed us to evaluate how well each airport supports families relative to its passenger volume, rather than just total facility counts.

Each feature was then weighted based on its importance to travelling families, with play areas and feeding facilities receiving higher emphasis. The data was converted into a composite score using min-max normalisation, and then rescaled to a final score between 30 and 95, ensuring visual clarity and avoiding inflated top-end results. The final rankings reflect not only the quantity of family-friendly features, but also how effectively airports provide for
families in proportion to the number of people they serve.

Pip is IATA cabin-approved however it is best to check with individual airlines before travelling.
