Father's Day with Guvna B

Father's Day with Guvna B

Fatherhood. A word, an experience, a journey. Have you ever thought about what fatherhood means to you? It may be a question you have considered a lot or maybe not at all. There is no one definition of fatherhood and whether you’re a new dad or an expectant dad, you will have your own unique idea shaped by your personal experiences and relationships. Every dad has their own path to fatherhood and this Father’s Day, iCandy asked Isaac Borquaye, aka Guvna B, to share his…

Guvna B has many impressive accolades, not least the titles of double MOBO award winning rapper and author. An influential voice within Grime and British hip-hop, he shares his views on youth culture through inspiring and uplifting lyrics. His latest album 'Hands Are Made for Working' was released in May 2018 and has been streamed over 6 million times. It was also the UK’s highest charting non-explicit rap album that year.

Alongside these professional achievements, Guvna B took on the role of Father in September 2019 with the arrival of his son Ezra.

Welcoming his son into the world made Guvna B reflect even more deeply about his relationship with his own father who died suddenly in 2017.

In this beautiful performance of spoken word, Guvna B reflects upon the example of Fatherhood his own dad set and how this is his inspiration for his future with Ezra. As father and son enjoy a forest walk with their iCandy Designer Collection Cerium, Guvna B ponders over how to emulate this, “I want the best for him like he wanted the best for me. The only way to achieve both is to be the best I can be”.

Playing with Ezra in his iCandy MiChair, Guvna B reflects upon the unpredictable adventure of fatherhood and that things don’t always go right the first time, “I may not have a clue most of the time. Might get the temperature slightly wrong at bath time or dress him in clothes that might be the wrong size”.

Yet Guvna B’s message is that the most important thing a father can be is present, not perfect, “But one thing I can’t get wrong is that I have to be present, learn lessons but be present. Through second guessing, be present. Cause when they fall down, we have to help them rise”.

“Happy Father’s Day to all of the dads as we embrace the biggest adventure of our lives”.
