First impressions of the Little Veggies recipe book

"I like the way this book is laid out โ€“ it is clever how recipes are broken down into various meal time suggestions as opposed to an endless list of recipes. As a dad with a diet that predominantly consists of meat, I found the information on vegetarian and plant based diets to be extremely informative and interesting. Even though a lot of the ingredients were not things that would usually be at home, I found them very easy to come by in the supermarket and most things were relatively inexpensive."

"Loved the bold bright colours and clear writing on the front. This is also continued on the side making it easy to find in your cupboards and drawers in the kitchen. It's also a hardback so will withstand the kitchen use. It has a clear and easy to read back page and simply explains what to expect. The book's pages are nice and bright, easy looking instructions to follow. A really easy shopping list located near the front of the book that I came across on my first flick through. It has nice clear titles so you can find what you're looking for quickly."

"So this book straight away leans on the vegetarian diet. Whilst itโ€™s about providing fresh and healthy meals, Iโ€™m a true believer that you should expose your children to all experiences from a food perspective without making strong choices for them. This book leans heavily on vegetarianism and how meat eating is going to cause a global disaster which, if Iโ€™m honest isnโ€™t something I really want to be reading when I simply want to know how to start feeding my children food."

Did the Little Veggie Eats cookbook help you to create easy, healthy and tasty weaning recipes?

Hard to follow

"The recipes in this book were more complex than some of the other books I have read." - Carson

Hard to follow

"I really enjoyed this book. It's very informative at the beginning. It has a nice and easy shopping list and the list isn't full of things you've never heard of. The nutritional information is very useful and explains where to find these in certain foods. As this is a vegetarian and plant based book it's also very useful for families that suffer with allergies as it gives you a substitute for your dairy products. The weaning timeline is easy to follow and also explains how much you should be giving your baby and also helps on how to cut their milk feeds down once you start introducing food. The recipes clearly state your measurements, the recipes are very easy to follow and the 'key' is very helpful, clearly stating what you can freeze and also which recipes require no cooking at all which is brilliant for quick meal times."

"The book opened my eyes to vegetarian and vegan dishes that I would not normally cook, some of which will definitely become regular additions to our family menu so that we can commit to eating a little less meat. The recipes are easy to follow and very well laid out. Even though some recipes have a longer cook time than others, there are still plenty of quick recipes in the book for midweek meals, when time is restricted. The fact that lots of the same ingredients are used in lots of the recipes helps to keep the cost down and reduce wastage."

Would you recommend the Little Veggie Eats recipe book ?

No

Personally, I wouldnโ€™t recommend Little Veggie Eats. Itโ€™s not a book thatโ€™s catered to me and my beliefs. Iโ€™m a strong believer that your children should at least be allowed to try certain food and make their own choices to an extent. This book could be used alongside other books but not one I would rely on solely. The book does however have a more in-depth level of nutritional advice than others and was useful for that information and also the information it provides around allergies and alternatives. The layout is more aligned to a traditional cook book rather than a weaning guide and as a result was a little more difficult to follow. Overall the book has some good content but not one I will be following going forward.

Yes

The Little Veggie recipe book is great for parents like myself who are not vegetarian or vegan and wish to introduce their family to a different way of eating. The Magic curry is a family favourite so far! The recipes are easy to follow, but just make sure you have enough time, as some meals take a lot longer to prepare than others. I loved the way the recipes are divided into different meal times and the fact that a lot of the meals can be frozen โ€“ great for stocking up the freezer. For anyone with allergies in the family โ€“ the adapting recipes section is extremely useful, as are the substitutions throughout the book.
Some of the meals take too long to prepare and cook, so some quicker meals would be appreciated.

Yes

I would definitely recommend this book. It has a brilliant variety of recipes, clear to follow, easy shopping lists making it affordable for everyone. The recipes are also quick and don't require too much prep. Certain recipes allow you to use leftover products from other recipes, for example, pesto pinwheels use the pesto from another recipe. The recipes suit the whole family and have been a big hit in our house. It also tells you what would make a great first finger food for your baby which will help with parents wanting to do baby led weaning rather than purees. The key clearly tells you what you can freeze, how many that particular recipe will feed and also if it is no-cook. All very bright, colourful and eye-catching.

iCandy Recommends

Our review panel really liked the tips, hacks and advice within this book to help parents ensure baby's nutritional needs are met in their first year. As the name of the book suggests, all recipes are vegetarian or vegan and 2 out of 3 reviewers loved how easy it made reducing meat in their diet or catering to allergens. Food wastage and nutrition hints and ideas were also a big hit. Whilst our reviewers found some of the recipes time consuming, they found there were still plenty of quick, midweek solutions that catered to the whole family.
