It has now been four months since iCandy had the proud distinction of announcing that Her Majesty The Queen had been graciously pleased to approve the former Prime Minister, Mr. David Cameron’s recommendation that iCandy should receive a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade this year. The Queen’s Award for Enterprise is the UK’s most prestigious award for business performance, we now have the honour of becoming the only British pushchair brand to have received this highest business accolade. With Brexit on the minds of many parents, iCandy are more than ever delighted to wave the flag and proudly export great British design around the globe. What’s more, we believe we have a responsibility to maintain Britain’s high standards of exports moving forwards, whilst the business generated at iCandy has also had a profound impact on our local community. With growing demand for iCandy products, we have helped create countless jobs and played a fundamental role in establishing Biggleswade as an area ripe for investment; with new housing developments and a thriving town centre now at the centrepiece of the community. With an iCandy product being sold every 12 seconds, there remains confidence in all British products as we move into a new economic era of British trade.
In acknowledgment of this momentous honour, we held a special celebration day and extended it to the families of all employees of iCandy World. The sun was shining, and kissed upon the marquee which had been set up for attendees at our Bedfordshire HQ. A series of special British themed events and activities were set up including a delicious Bake Off, classic children’s lawn games, face painting, and a timeless 1940s four piece band. Meanwhile, pitchers of Pimms, an ice cream stall, and a scrumptious high tea completed the classic British summer afternoon scene.
The day centred upon the arrival of her Majesty the Queen’s representatives, the Lord Lieutenant of Bedfordshire and her team, iCandy’s local MP, the Right Honourable Alistair Burt, and the Queen’s Custodian of the Official Royal Image Library, Mike O’Keefe. The Lord Lieutenant presented both Bradley and Warren, joint CEO’s of iCandy with a crystal engraved bowl, together with a certificate of her Majesty’s Warrant. This was to acknowledge the success and provide iCandy with permanent mementos of this outstanding achievement.
Our Joint CEO and Founder, Bradley Appel had the following to say regarding the honour…
“We are absolutely delighted and honoured to have been presented with the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade. This award is part of an incredibly exciting and successful year at iCandy, and today we wanted to bring you all together to help us celebrate this fantastic achievement and also to say ‘thank you’ to all of the team here at iCandy who have worked so hard in order for us to realise this.
iCandy are extremely proud to be a British company, and this Queen’s Award highlights that luxury British products are internationally in such high demand. Now more than ever it is crucial for Britain to maximise export opportunities and at the same time champion and support Great British brands. In the 1960's there was an I'm Backing Britain campaign and we fully believe in that sentiment as much today, especially during Brexit. Getting behind and believing in British brands ourselves can only serve to promote Brand Britain globally. iCandy pushchairs are now gracing the homes of parents all across the globe and the iCandy name has become synonymous with quality, style and Great British design. This makes my brother Warren and myself so very proud.
But it’s not just the fantastic product that sets iCandy apart. We have a team of dedicated, professional, knowledgeable and truly passionate people that have helped us to get where we are today. Thank you to each and every one of you for your continued support, and we invite you to relax and enjoy this afternoon’s celebrations with your colleagues and families.
Thank you also to the Lord Lieutenant and her team for visiting us on this very special day.”
