Aftabs celebrating an MBE

Leading UK iCandy stockist Aftabs is currently celebrating some truly impressive news.Aftab Chughtai, the owner of the East Birmingham department store Aftabs, has recently been honoured with an MBE for his efforts towards the local community, along with his various charity endeavours. The MBE is recognition of his services to the business and community relations in the Birmingham area.

Aftab is an instrumental member of his local community, he cites the rich diversity of the area, along with its many characters as his primary inspiration behind his hard work and unrelenting desire to improve the life of the Birmingham constituents. Aftab is known for the sheer number of roles he commits to voluntarily, he is committed to all matters relating to Birmingham. Aftab is a very proud born and bred “Brummie.” He is currently on the board serving as the vice president of the Asian business chamber of commerce, which forms part of the greater Birmingham Chambers Of Commerce, a role he has earned through his sense of business and knowledge of industry. He has also served the Washwood Heath and Saltley community for the past 14 years, acting as a key member of major community issues.

Moreover, since 2002, Aftab has gone on to work with all statutory partners, ensuring the voices of the people around him have an outlet to be heard. Throughout all of his many endeavours, Aftab has still found time to help forge links between the West Midlands police force, and the local community since 2007. He is currently the Chair of the Independent Advisory Board for West Midlands Police Birmingham East. Incredibly, Aftab also advised in Operation Gamble-a counter terrorism operation, once more proving his ability to think clearly, even under extreme pressure.

Upon receiving the award last week Aftab was understandably ecstatic.

“It’s a big honour and it’s not just me that’s receiving it – it’s for everyone who supported me along the way. “I’m a born and bred Brummie and I’m a very proud Brummie.

The community has given so much to me, and it was that thought about 15 years ago that convinced me I needed to give something back to the community.”

The store Aftabs has been running since 1984 and they have been stocking iCandy since 2006. The MBE is thoroughly deserved and Aftab will continue to serve his community in the best way possible, always looking to help out people where he can. We are delighted to be one of a number of organisations shining the spotlight on Aftabs stunning achievement.

Once again congratulations Aftab, best wishes from everyone at iCandy.
