First impressions of the Wean In 15 recipe book

"I loved the fact that the book is very structured and easy to follow. I particularly liked the โ€˜basics' section, which gave me the confidence to start weaning as it helped to explain every stage and what to expect. I liked the broad variety of meals and the fact that itโ€™s broken down into different age appropriate meals. On first impression I liked the fact that a lot of the ingredients used were things that we would typically have in our store cupboard."

- Ben

"Nice and easy title that goes with his other well known books. I like the nice simple design and the photo makes it very clear that it's a Joe Wicks book. It's a hardback, which to me, is a must for a book being used in a kitchen. It's a nice size and will easily fit in cupboards and drawers in your kitchen. When flicking through quickly, it has eye catching photos and the writing seemed clear to read. It was clearly broken down into age categories and has a detailed introduction including a personal experience to allergies."

- Lucy

"I didnโ€™t realise Joe Wicks did a weaning book but I was very pleased to see he does. Wean in 15 is immediately welcoming and with basic language is incredibly engaging. Joe makes the basic information incredibly easy to read, which for new parents starting on our weaning journey was reassuring and he passes on his own experiences of the [allergy] issues he had with his daughter."

Did Wean In 15 help you to create easy, healthy and tasty weaning recipes?

Simple

"The recipes are really easy to follow and incredibly quick to make, meaning we are able to cook fresh most days." - Carson

Simple

"I felt that the Wean in 15 book is quite complex. The recipes take quite a long time to prep and make which made it difficult to use if baby was awake and wanting my attention. I found the recipes to be very, very different to what we would normally prepare/cook. There doesn't seem to be a great deal of meals that can be used for the family. This would then have me cooking different meals for different people in the house. It has many ingredients that can be quite costly. It also uses little bits of this and that and can create a lot of wastage. I didn't like the introduction at the beginning and thought that the breastfeeding comments could cause upset to some mums. Not something you expect from a weaning book. I did like when it specified if you can freeze, as batch cooking is always a bonus"

- Lucy

"I found it very easy to follow the recipes and liked the way in which it told you how many portions it should make. The instructions are easy to follow and everything is extremely well explained. The Mexican falafel black bean bites and the five spice Thai chicken cakes are delicious and are two meals we cannot wait to share with our little one when he is old enough. The accurate measurements provided make it easier to create the exact meal, even if this is a little more time consuming than the methods in other books."

Would you recommend the Wean In 15 recipe book ?

Yes

Absolutely. Joe provides his own experiences from his weaning journey with his daughter. He explains the highs and lows such as the allergies his daughter experienced alongside the fun they had whilst trying new foods. The guidance he also provides through the book around signs to keep an eye on when your babies either enjoy or donโ€™t enjoy food, was also incredibly reassuring. Weโ€™ve since made some of the recipes for when the girls get older for ourselves as they tasted so nice such as the chickpea and mushroom burger. Something in this book for everyone!

Yes

I would recommend this book to another parent as it is a fantastic starting point โ€“ especially for first time parents. The 'basics' section at the beginning of the book provides you with so much up to date and straightforward information, it gives you the confidence to start weaning. There are plenty of great, nutritionally balanced recipes to enable meal times as a family to be quick, easy and very tasty โ€“ just what working parents need. I also really liked the tips for modifying meals, which will come in handy when my son is a little older.

No

I wouldn't recommend this book to other mums. It's recipes can be very overwhelming and long winded. The ingredients don't seem realistic to me and caused me a fair bit of wastage when I was cooking. It's broken down into age sections which is great but it hasn't got many family meals in it, meaning it is pretty much just for baby. The introduction isn't great, but the information on his personal experience of a nut allergy is brilliant. I did like the clear key telling you if you can freeze, if it's gluten free etc. But for me, this isn't a good book for parents looking for an easy weaning book to follow and help guide them.

Reviewer recommendations

iCandy Recommends

Our reviewers liked the clear and succinct nature of this weaning book, from the way the recipes are categorised to the simple ingredients. Two of our reviewers were really impressed with the recipes and their appeal to both children and adults alike, whilst one tester found the recipes too complex for life with a small child. Everyone really liked the way in which Wean in 15 is inspired by Joeโ€™s journey with his own children, particularly in relation to allergies.
