A letterbox style baby sensory kit with monochrome items designed to support babyโ€™s early sensory development. A guide on how to incorporate the items into play as well as more enticing packaging would have enhanced this product.

What's on the box

Our monochrome letterbox gift is perfect for newborn babies. We understand the importance of facilitating play-based experiences for babies from the very beginning and our Baby Sensory Boxes are a great way to stimulate little ones and provide them with multi-sensory learning experiences.

First impressions of the Little Explorers Monochrome Baby Sensory Set

"I was amazed by the amount of products in the compact box. The quality and variety of each item is really great and you can see a lot of thought and effort has gone into this set. The inclusion of different monochrome items in one set is amazing, especially since my son is 2 months and can currently only see black and white at this early stage, so it's great for the development of his eyesight, hearing and gaining a sense of different textures."

- Izzah

"The initial presentation is not dissimilar to the others with the branding and tissue paper, however on opening, the box comes with no introduction or explanation and poor quality items. Though Iโ€™m told theyโ€™re useful, I have never had the black and white contrast images explained beyond โ€œthey will stimulate your babyโ€™s brainโ€. The only things in the box that are truly appealing are the ribbon ring and foil blanket, both seem to be fairly standard items. On a positive note, it could be used as an expansion pack to complement a more exciting selection of sensory aids. Although the letterbox size and tissue paper within are nice, they reveal, honestly, a bland disappointment."

"I wasnโ€™t impressed with the letterbox - it was just an envelope."

Did the Little Explorers Monochrome Baby Sensory Set include everything you expected?

Great items

"Each and every item in the Little Explorers Monochrome Baby Sensory Set was amazing to use and to introduce sensory play for my baby boy." - Izzah

Great items

"I found the foil blanket and the ribbon ring the two most effective and interesting items in the box. There is no guide, no introduction and no explanation of the items within and having never been to a sensory class I haven't a clue as to whether or not it offers the props required."

- Shona

"No guide sent. It wasnโ€™t clear what the flash cards should be used for and no hints on how to incorporate this into play. I think the black and white theme was probably for newborns but my baby was not interested in any of the items."

Would you recommend the Little Explorers Monochrome Baby Sensory Set?

Yes

I would highly recommend the Little Explorers Monochrome Baby Sensory Set to any parent especially to any parent who is expecting their first child. This set is extremely useful and helpful in introducing a child or newborn to sensory play for the first time. As a first-time mum it has helped me introduce sensory play easily with only a few items. It has helped me introduce sound, texture and shapes to my 2 month old son and help me feel extremely happy when heโ€™s smiling, especially when using the foil blanket. I loved seeing him wriggling around and hearing the crackling sound of the foil sheet. The handmade ribbon ring is great too as this stimulates my sonโ€™s vision and encourages his alertness in tracking the ribbon with his tiny hand when moving it around. This would be a great set as a gift and is really good value for money.

No

I would only recommend this set to top-up another box. ยฃ10.95 for an underwhelming box that simply appears to be a random selection just wouldnโ€™t be on my list to purchase for myself or a friend. The ribbon ring is admittedly a favourite of my sons.

No

No - I just didnโ€™t like the overall concept. I would suggest they include a guide or a business card where parents can find suggestions for play on the brandโ€™s social media account.

iCandy Recommends

Our panel of reviewers have very differing opinions on this sensory box. One tester couldnโ€™t fault it, praising the ease with which it enabled her to introduce sensory play to her newborn and the stimulating impact it had on her son, as well as its value for money. The other testers felt that the overall appearance of the box could be improved to make it more of a giftable, plus a guide could be included to offer tips and support on how to best use the products to support babyโ€™s development.
